FACT #1: ALL COUPLES HAVE A FEW PROBLEMS

Let's face it, coupledom has its rewards and challenges.  Whether you're married or not, long-term intimate relating between two people can get complicated and friction is a natural result.  We now know from scientific study of long-term couples and the therapeutic services that alleviate relational distress that:
- Attachment, and associated emotions, is a phenomenon that is scientifically proven to apply to adult love relationships.
- All couples have conflict, and how they manage rupture and repair so that they stay connected is crucial to the stability and satisfaction of the relationship.
- Nearly all couples experience interactive cycles of mutually reinforcing, repetitive, reactive emotions and behaviors that accidentally perpetuate ruptures and hinder repairs.
- Without de-escalating these cycles couples are left at risk of gradual diminishing trust and commitment, and loss of positive sentiment, which can lead to major ruptures such as affairs, cold avoidance, and divorce.

FACT #2: IMPROVEMENT IS PROBABLE WITH
SCIENCE-BASED HELP

Couples therapy and relationship enhancement workshops aren't what they used to be:
- Observational and longitudinal study of couples has given us clear targets for relational health and distress
- Clinical studies of couples therapy approaches tells us clearly what works now
- Science-based researched couples education programs yield strong results
- Today's couple therapy and couple education programs aren't what our parents had access to

FACT #3: MOST COUPLES WAIT TOO LONG TO SEEK HELP

Most couples wait 6-7 years after a negative pattern of conflict over connection appears before seeking help.  While delay of treatment or level of distress is not a predictor of outcome in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, long delays of treatment and increased severity of distress predicts length of time needed in treatment, and could be associated with increased rates of divorce and marital resignation before seeking treatment.

Seeking help earlier is evidenced to reduce time in treatment, and reduce odds of divorce.

FACT #4: HOLD ME TIGHT® WORKSHOPS and
EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY
ARE TWO INTERVENTIONS PROVEN TO HELP

It used to be the case that couples had uncertain chances of improvement when seeing a couple therapist or attending an intensive couples workshop, but now science has proven that Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples and Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshops are evidence based:
- 75% of moderately distressed couples achieve complete recovery from a 10-15 session course of EFT
- 90% of couples experience clinically significant improvements in their relationship during a course of EFT
- Self-referred couples attending Hold Me Tight® workshops improve ratings of relationship satisfaction, security of partner-bond, forgiveness, daily coordination, and psychological complaints.
